Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond

Sweet Caroline
The song, Sweet Caroline, by Neil Diamond is a famous and truly American song sung at many sporting events and in bars across the country. The song was written most notably about JFK's daughter, Caroline Kennedy, whom Diamond had seen in a picture and then written about. The chorus is generally sung by everyone within earshot:
"Sweet Caroline,
Good times never seemed so good,
I've been inclined,
To believe they never would,
Oh no no"
I have always enjoyed when the song is played and my friends turning to me to sing it. Many memories of college and late nights out come to mind and the fun times I have had. Being from Rhode Island, the song was also very popular for the Boston Red Sox as they viewed it as good luck to play it during their home games. For me, the song will always be a positive and fun reminder of good times and friends.

Participial phrases have commas and always act as adjectives in the sentence. They can be moved to other parts of the sentence and still keep the same meaning.

Example: Brewing her own coffee in the morning, Caroline was able to save $500 a year.

Caroline was able to save $500 a year, brewing her own coffee in the morning.

Write a four sentence paragraph about a song you enjoy and use two examples of participial phrases. Re-write the same paragraph and move around each participial phrase in your sentences.

  2. Caroline, I love the way in which you took your name and you were able to connect it to something that means a lot to you. This is one of my family's favorite songs, and I think it is so cool how you turned this into a grammar entry. Great job!
